  Counseling Services

Dear School Community:

Yesterday afternoon we were notified that a Kenilworth youth who previously attended our schools sustained a serious injury on Thursday.  Unfortunately, school personnel will not be able to share any information that is sensitive and or confidential in nature. Our thoughts are with the student and his family.

We have counselors available to speak to any student, staff member, parent or community member who might be in need of assistance.  Brearley students will be made aware of these supports today in a sensitive and age appropriate way. We will be working with The Traumatic Loss Coalition to provide our community with services.

Additionally, we are partnering with the Union County Vocational Technical Schools for the purposes of optimizing our support for the students, staff and families of both communities. Please understand that the school leadership teams will prioritize support for students and impacted community members during the next several days through counseling and other resources as needed.

The district has a crisis response team comprised of trained professionals who mobilize during times of need and remain in close contact with appropriate community partners. News such as this can evoke a wide variety of responses. It is normal to experience a range of emotions, concerns and questions. The crisis response teams we have implemented at Brearley Middle-High School are available to provide you with various levels of services.

While these circumstances are unsettling, we will strive to maintain as typical a routine for students as possible and we encourage you all to do the same. However, if at any time you feel that additional help is needed for any staff, students or family member, we urge you to contact the school directly or connect with your child’s guidance counselor.

Sincerely,

Kyle C. Arlington
